What's all this about?
The Aston Martin Valkyrie, with its ridiculous 6.5-litre, 1,000hp V12, is already a pretty damned special car. Just 150 will be made, at vast expense to the lucky owners who have enough disposable income to be able to buy one. However, the 'Q by Aston Martin' customisation branch of the British supercar manufacturer is allowing those 150 owners to make each Valkyrie even more special and unique. Such as, for instance, fitting a Track Performance Pack to it.
Hasn't Aston already done a track-only Valkyrie?
Good knowledge. You might be thinking of the Valkyrie AMR Pro, which is a track-only machine. However, the Track Performance Pack is a set of parts designed to be interchangeable with the road-legal bits of the street-biased Valkyrie. So, you get an aerodynamic front clam that generates more downforce and greater aero efficiency, a second set of all the rest of the body panels, lightweight titanium brakes, track-focused suspension and a matte-black, magnesium performance wheel set with carbon-fibre aero-discs. These can be switched back and forth, so your Valkyrie is road-legal one minute and then capable of lapping a circuit up to eight per cent quicker, with the Track Performance Pack fitted, the next.
What if I'm a Valkyrie owner who doesn't do track days? What can Q do for me?
Well, Q is a personalisation service, so you can pretty much do what your imagination (and wallet) will allow. However, four 'Designer Specification' themes are available, with bespoke colours only for the Valkyrie - choose from Slipstream Green, Liquid Petroleum, Ethanol Silver and Maximum Orange. You can have the roof and rear engine cover finished in exposed carbon fibre, as opposed to the standard gloss-black arrangement, while the cantrails can also be specified in carbon, only this time with a lacquer on top. Further, you could change the silver tailpipe and muffler to black, have the Aston Martin 'wings' badges made from titanium, opt for the Mokume Carbon Fibre pack (which features 'exterior carbon-fibre jewellery' for various components) or go the full, indulgent hog and tick the Gold Pack option. That layers 24-carat golf leaf livery underneath the Valkyrie's paint lacquer.
How about within?
Some wild choices of colours, patterns and finishes for the Alcantara seats and the harnesses are available, while woven leather - first seen in the Aston One-77 hypercar of a few years back - can adorn the door pockets and armrest trim. Similarly, all the driver-focused switchgear on the steering wheel, usually finished in anodised silver, black or red finish, can also be crafted from titanium through the Q by Aston Martin service.
Any words from the team behind this machine?
Sure. Marek Reichman, Aston Martin's executive vice-president and chief creative officer, said: "This is simply the best car in the world if you want something bespoke and we are really pushing the boundaries to match the dreams of our customers. Every single element of this hypercar, including its performance, can be personalised. The materials are very much about science, the art of creativity and the ability to create a unique solution that doesn't detract from this exceptional car's performance capability."
