What's this then?
This is the Porsche Project Gold.
It's very gold, isn't it?
Yup. It's also very rare - a 1990s, air-cooled, 993-edition Porsche 911 Turbo, built this year.
A 1990s car built this year?
Indeed. Porsche found that it had a spare 993 bodyshell, and decided to show off the capabilities of the Porsche Classic department by building a better-than-new 993 Turbo S, complete with newly built 3.6-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine, and 450hp (that's 42hp more than it would have originally had).
How much for it, then?
A cool €2.7 million, or £2.4 million. At the big RM Sotheby's Porsche celebration auction, held at the Porsche Experience Centre in Atlanta, it took just ten minutes and 37 bids to reach that colossal number, making this the most expensive Porsche 911 evs.
What happens to the money?
Porsche is donating it to its own Ferry Porsche Foundation, which was recently founded to promote education in science and engineering, as well as helping those affected by social hardship.
