What's this then?

This is the hardcore 911 GT3 made even more hardcore. It's the 911 GT3 RS and Porsche has given it an update for 2018.

What's changed?

Nothing much is different on the outside. It still has the same ironing board of a wing at the back, but there are a few minor nips and tweaks to the bodywork. There's nothing much different inside, either. You get the same carbon-fibre reinforced bucket seats as before, nets instead of door bins, fabric pulls instead of door handles and a total absence of sound-deadening. Oh, and there's a lighter engine cover. This is a 911 for the dedicated.

So are there mechanical changes, then?

Oh yes. How about an extra 20hp from the 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine? That gives the GT3 RS a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 193mph. All of that with a wailing 9,000rpm redline and some updates for the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox.

Anything else?

Oh yes, although you need to delve into the options list to find the really interesting stuff. How about the Clubsport Pack? This adds a half rollcage where the back seats should be, a fire extinguisher, six-point harness for the seats and wiring so you can add an ignition cutoff switch. If that's not enough, then you might want to take a look at the Weissach Pack. This uses extra carbon-fibre components for the chassis, interior and body (you can add an unpainted bonnet as part of this) and it even adds magnesium wheels to bring the GT3's weight down to just 1,430kg.
