What's a Touring Package then?
Well, do you remember last year when Porsche offered the strictly limited-edition 911R - basically a 911 GT3 with more road-biased settings, a manual gearbox, and a simpler interior?
Yes...
Well the Touring Package is that, but not in a limited edition. This is the car you buy when you want the performance and precision of a 911 GT3, but can't be bothered with track days.
So what's changed?
Not the running gear. It keeps the GT3's 500hp 4.0-litre flat-six engine, and sticks with the 911R's six-speed manual gearbox (there's no PDK dual-clutch option like the GT3) but it strips away a lot of the GT3's bodykit (most notably the big rear wing) in favour of a quieter style. More GT than GT3. In fact, it even uses the standard electrically deployable rear wing from the 911 Carrera, albeit with a special 'Gurney Flap' extension. That flat-six will propel the Touring Package 911 from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 196mph, which is largely identical to the 911 GT3.
Inside, the GT3's stripped-out, Alcantara-everything, racer-like cabin is gone, replaced by GT-style black leather and embossed headrests. The seats do have fabric centres, though, just to wick away the sweat from an enjoyable drive a bit better.
What about options?
You can have it with the same exterior and wheel colours, the PCCB carbon ceramic brakes, the nose lift system designed to clear speed bumps, LED headlights, all seat variants, the Chrono Package and the audio systems, as the GT3, and it also features that car's rear-wheel steering system. One thing you can't add is the GT3's optional rear roll cage, although the Touring Package is still just a two-seater.
And how much is it?
There are no official UK prices yet - although it will probably be about the same as the £112,000 GT3, and also be asterisked with 'limited availability' on the website, just like other GT-spec Porsches...
