What's all this about?
This is the new Range Rover Sport SV Carbon, which completes the line-up of the flagship RRS with one dripping in, well, carbon. Clue's in the name, folks. Anyway, sitting above the regular SV and then the SV Black, the SV Carbon will cost from £165,045. That's slightly more than a £25,000 premium on top of the £139,995 SV, and £10,070 more than the recently announced £154,975 SV Black that'll be available to order later this year.
OK, what do I get for my extra outlay?
As we said, lots of carbon fibre. The standard Forged Carbon Exterior Pack includes detailing around the quad exhausts, among more, while the standard wheels are massive 23-inch lightweight forged alloys with Anodised Black brake callipers. But if there's already not enough carbon on this top-dog RRS SV, then customers can optionally up the quotient of the material with an exposed carbon-fibre bonnet and/or a set of ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre wheels, again of 23 inches in diameter. In addition, there's the choice of a Twill Carbon finish if preferred, and even carbon-ceramic brakes with the option of Blue, Yellow, Carbon Bronze or Black callipers gripping them.
Incidentally, fit those 23-inch carbon rims and fully 76kg comes off the Range Rover Sport SV's kerb weight - although that is compared to a P530 model in equivalent spec, rather than the regular SV or the SV Carbon with the forged alloys fitted. Still, those giant wheels in carbon clearly do wonders for trimming back unsprung mass, so that's a positive outcome considering the expense of the kit.
Inside the Range Rover, there are four interior themes. Three of them are centred on perforated Windsor leather, with the seats finished in either Ebony, Rosewood/Ebony or Light Cloud/Ebony accordingly. The fourth option will satisfy vegans, as it features Cinder Grey/Ebony seats clothed in perforated Ultrafabrics material. There's then more carbon fibre, with the detailing on the seatbacks and dashboard. The Twill Carbon finish is optionally available again inside, to match the exterior, while extended Moonlight Chrome detailing and illuminated 'SV'-branded sill plates complete the look of the SV Carbon.
How about power or chassis upgrades? Anything extra in either of these departments?
No, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Like any other Range Rover Sport SV, and indeed the mighty Land Rover Defender Octa, the SV Carbon uses the mild-hybrid-assisted, 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that delivers peak outputs of 635hp and 800Nm. The engine cover sitting over this monster unit is rendered in carbon fibre, naturally, and it's strong enough to punt the luxe-SUV to 180mph where such a speed is permitted. It's also fitted with the 6D Dynamics Suspension, a hydraulically interlinked air set-up that makes the SV taut-handling on the road and surprisingly capable off it, while audiophiles who aren't listening to the V8 engine's tunes will be pleased to know the interior features the Body and Soul Seat (BASS) technology.
Anything else to add?
Just that the Sport SV Carbon will make its world premiere on August 13 at the Monterey Car Week, so let's hand over to Ryan Miller, the product and services marketing director for Range Rover, who said: "Following the introduction of the previously limited Range Rover Sport SV Edition One and Edition Two, clients now have more choice when it comes to specifying their ultimate luxury performance SUV.
"Last month we announced the Range Rover Sport SV Black, offering a stealthy, dipped-in-black aesthetic, while the new Range Rover Sport SV Carbon is an assertive interpretation of our luxury performance SUV. Offered alongside Range Rover Sport SV and SV Black, it completes the new line-up showcasing the best of Range Rover's sophisticated carbon-fibre materials, for the ultimate expression of lightweight performance."
