What's all this about?
Land Rover has updated the Discovery for 2025, giving the car a few specification upgrades and two new trim levels. The new Tempest and Gemini models are additions to the existing line-up, rather than replacements for any previous variants, and they are joined by new option packs designed specifically for the beach, snowy conditions and road trips.
What are these new special editions?
The new Discovery Tempest is designed to be the most luxurious Discovery model ever produced, and sits at the top of the new-look range. With a choice of Charente Grey, Varesine Blue and Carpathian Grey body colours, all of which feature a matte protective film, the car gets a Petra Copper Gloss roof finish as standard, although there’s a Narvik Black option.
Petra Copper features on the wing vents, the Discovery lettering and the lower bumper inserts, too, while there are 22-inch alloy wheels with Petra Copper tinted lacquer. Unique badging for the B-pillars, treadplates and puddle lamps also sets the car apart, while the cabin is adorned with Shadow Aluminium detailing and extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery.
The Gemini model, meanwhile, gets a choice of six exterior colours, including Sedona Red, which is unique to the edition, as well as a gloss black roof and gloss black exterior detailing. Again, it gets a model-specific graphic on the B-pillar badges, and there are new 21-inch alloy wheels in Diamond Turned Silver. As well as those visual upgrades, the Gemini also gets a cooler compartment between the front seats, Click & Go media holders for rear-seat passengers, and three-zone climate control.
Both the Tempest and Gemini models get Land Rover’s D350 3.0-litre diesel engine with mild hybrid technology, an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. That 350hp engine also allows the car to tow a trailer weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
So how much faster is it?
Very slightly. There are new wheel options, with different colour finishes, such as the 22-inch alloys that can now be specified with Dark Grey tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing. But that’s about your lot.
Unless, of course, you delve into the options list. There, you’ll find three new option packs, designed respectively for the beach, snow and road trips. The Beach Days pack provides a collapsible luggage bay organiser and sunshades for the tailgate, as well as a roof rack, and rubber floor mats, while the Snow Days pack provides cross bars for the roof rails, a rubber loadspace mat, mud flaps and a snow traction system. The Road Trips pack, meanwhile, gets you two seat organisers, a centre armrest cooler and an electric cool bag, plus cross bars and a roof box, and wind deflectors for the windows.
All three packs join an existing range of options that includes the For Dogs pack, with its foldable pet carrier, portable rinse system and spill-resistant water bowl.
How much does all this cost?
The new Discovery range starts at £64,810, which makes even the basic S model fairly expensive, but all versions – including the new special editions – are available to order now.
