What's all this about?

A bespoke edition of what you could probably already call a pretty bespoke car, this is the snappily-titled McLaren 570GT XP Green MSO Collection.

Please decipher that name for me.

It's actually quite simple. The 'XP Green' bit signifies that this particular run of 570GTs will be painted in the same hue as the famous McLaren F1 XP GT 'Longtail' of 1997, a car whose sole purpose was to homologate the F1 for the world's premier endurance racing championship of the time. That paint is now reserved by McLaren for special commissions, and this car will be limited to a run of six.

And the MSO bit?

That'll be McLaren Special Operations, which is sadly not some sort of tactical division with men in tiny planes dedicated to sabotaging car factories in the Modena region. It's the customisation arm of the company, which is dedicated to giving customers exactly what they want from their McLaren, at a price of course.

What else is different about it?

You get the handy GT upgrade pack, with its uprated stereo, rear-view camera and vehicle lift system, as well as an 'MSO Black' finish and some 'Saddle Tan' pinstriping on the external aero components. The lightweight forged wheels get a stealthy hue, while the tan interior gets green detailing on the seats, as well as an individually-numbered plaque. No mechanical changes here, although the 570GT does feature softer springs and more luggage space than its 570S Coupe brother, making it a nicer place to be over long distances.

How much does it cost?

Can you really put a price on exclusivity? Handily for us, they have, and the six cars are heading to owners in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, costing £188,567 each. MSO is planning more limited editions in the near future, so watch this space.
