What's all this about?
It's the new Honda NSX.
Oh, do come off it! I've heard this a thousand times before and we're still waiting.
Yes, we feel your pain. Since the original bowed out in 2005, we've had any number of myths and whispers that suggest a replacement is just around the corner. This time, though, we're confident the agonising 10-year wait is nearly at an end.
Go on, then - what do we know?
A production version of the new NSX will get its debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), where it will be badged as an Acura.
Why is it being shown in the USA?
Because a team of engineers from the US is developing this generation's NSX and it will be built in Ohio. That's right, it'll be an American Honda product.
Sounds dicey. Will they get the handling right and what is it being powered by?
On the former, we're not sure. On the latter... we're not entirely sure, but we do know it has a 'three-motor, twin-turbocharged Sport Hybrid drivetrain'. Which probably translates as a turbocharged petrol engine with supplementary electric motors on each axle, meaning the new NSX will be all-wheel drive, rather than rear-driven.
I'm getting nervous about this...
Don't be, it should be sensational. Over to Chief Engineer Ted Klaus to try and allay your fears: "After three years of intensive development work [since the concept aired at NAIAS 2012] we are excited to reveal this next-generation supercar - the Acura NSX - to the world. We've developed a human-centred supercar that responds to the will of the driver and that builds upon the NSX heritage."
Can I see more of it, other than what these infuriating teaser images reveal?
Not yet, as the car won't be officially unveiled until January 12th, but there is a 30-second video you can watch, which lets you hear the NSX and see a tiny bit more of its look. See below:
