What's the news?
Mark Higgins has confirmed that he will pilot the latest Subaru WRX STI saloon around the TT course on the Isle of Man later this month, in a bid to set a new record. He holds the current title at 19 minutes 56.7 seconds, also set in a Subaru.
Three years after Higgins set that time he is going to drive the new WRX STI around the 37.7-mile mountain circuit with the sole target of setting a new record. There will be three timed runs between May 31 and June 4, with the roads closed.
Higgins commented: "Setting the record was totally exhilarating and one of the highlights of my career - Bray Hill certainly added to the thrill! As a Manxman, I love the TT Races and I have a huge amount of respect for the TT riders and what they do. It will be a real honour to attempt a new fastest car lap."
Anything else?
While Subaru will be using the US-spec car for the event, the new WRX STI goes on sale this month in the UK. The car to be used for the timed runs has everything stock except the springs and dampers. Also, a roll-cage, race harness and fire suppression system will be added.
Subaru of America is announced as the partner for this year's event as well.
