What's the news?

A brand new Mexican sports car maker has decided to put its concept model into production thanks to the level of interest it got at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car in question is named the VUHL 05, and was driven up the hill at Goodwood by F1 driver, Esteban Gutierrez.

"We could not have wished for a better response from the media and public," commented Guillermo Echeverria, Automotive Director at VUHL. "It is clear the car is just as appealing to those wanting an ultra-cool car for the road as the serious track day enthusiasts seeking an alternative to more established manufacturers."

The outside of the VUHL 05 has been created in a similar style to the KTM X-Bow. The aggressive-looking front headlight clusters are mimicked round the back; where you'll also find a large rear wing that we would expect to be adjustable. The absence of a windscreen, windows and roof means that occupants will be most comfortable when equipped with a helmet; and the two roll bars should protect its passengers if things go wrong. Front and rear lateral splitters, a rear diffuser and a flat under-body also feature.

As you'd expect, there isn't a lot in there. Each custom built interior has options such as carbon bucket seats, an electronic dashboard and a water-resistant suede-covered racing steering wheel. Buyers can also opt for an onboard HD camera to record themselves hooning round a track.

It's here where things get exciting. Under the bonnet of the VUHL 05 is a heavily modified version of Ford's 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine, developing in excess of 400hp. When you combine this with a monocoque that weighs a mere 78kg and an overall dry weight of 695kg, it's unsurprising that the VUHL 05 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 152mph. Double wishbone suspension, large cross-drilled brake discs and sticky Michelin tyres all work with the aero kit in the bends as well.

Anything else?

Production of the VUHL 05 is set to begin in November with first deliveries expected early 2014. Prices are to start at £55,000 but that doesn't include shipping or taxes.
The VUHL 05 will make its next appearance at the Salon Privé Show in London between the 4th and 6th September. Here it will sit in the supercar display alongside Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin and Noble.
