What's the news?

Audi has announced that both a special edition TT and new indicator technology will be showcased at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show - among other things.

Audi TTS Competition

A new limited edition TT has been created to celebrate the 500,000th TT rolling off the production line; with only 500 examples planned for worldwide production. Available in both coupé and convertible form, the TTS Competition is based largely on the regular TTS, but features a 272hp version of the company's 2.0-litre TFSI engine, accelerating it from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds.

Bespoke Imola Yellow and Nimbus Grey paint finishes are the only two colour options; with the interior continuing this colour scheme. A fixed rear wing has been installed too; supported by bars with a matt-aluminium paint finish. New 19-inch 'Rotor' alloy wheels also feature.

Inside there is a steel grey leather package as standard, with splashes of Imola Yellow found in the stitching and throughout the cabin. Equipment levels are lifted directly from the TTS; although the Competition version gets a more heavily contoured steering wheel, rear parking sensors, and a "1 of 500" commemorative plaque on each door trim.

The A8's new indicators

Also debuting at Frankfurt is Audi's new turn signal technology that is soon to be made available on the flagship A8. The new tech is "highly effective" according to Audi; and "has the potential to significantly enhance traffic safety".

In essence, the new LED units light up sequentially in the direction of intended travel. For example if the driver signals left, the 18 LEDs upfront and the 24 LEDs round the back will light up from right to left until the whole light is illuminated; and then the process is repeated.

This new system is the latest is a line of innovative lighting technology from Audi; more of which can be seen in its Matrix LED headlights. These headlights can, when on full beam, detect oncoming cars and block out individual LEDs; thus maintaining a clear view ahead without blinding other road users. In addition, the system has navigation-based cornering lights, and can warn drivers of potentially invisible pedestrians when used with the night vision function.

Anything else?

The Audi stand at Frankfurt will show all this and more when the event opens its doors from 10th-24th September 2013.
