What's the news?
SsangYong has introduced a new entry level version of its Korando crossover. At £18,795 the SX model is the cheapest four-wheel drive offering in the range and also boasts the lowest CO2 emissions. It comes, SsangYong says, in direct response to feedback from customers who said they wanted a 4x4 crossover for less than £20,000.
Exterior
Externally the SX model is virtually unchanged from the rest of the Giorgetto Giugiaro designed Korando range. The only thing to differentiate it from the EX model is 16- instead of 17-inch alloy wheels.
Interior
While the SX has to make do without the heated leather seats of the previous entry-level four-wheel drive EX model it still comes equipped with tinted glass and rear parking sensors, a leather covered steering wheel and gear shift, cruise control and a Kenwood MP3 CD & RDS radio with iPod & Bluetooth, remote audio controls and six speakers.
Mechanicals
Like the rest of the Korando range the SX model is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, but unlike the others, which boast 175hp, the SX puts out 149hp. This helps to bring CO2 emissions down to 157g/km - from 169g/km. The 0-62mph time remains unchanged, at 9.9 seconds, as does the two-tonne towing capacity.
The SX features the Torque on Demand 4x4 system fitted to EX models, and like all Korandos is equipped with ESP including Hill Start Assist.
