BMW will unveil a new range topping 1-series
in Geneva next month with UK sales set to begin in the autumn.
Powered by the same new lightweight straight six found in the 330i and 630i, the new 130i will offer class-leading performance. The double-VANOS six puts out 258bhp in the 130i giving 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and 155mph whilst still offering a claimed 31.4mpg thanks to the 1's relatively small stature.
The 130i is distinguished from lesser models by a more prominent kidney grille, 17-inch alloys and a large dual active exhaust system that varies gas flow according to throttle input; optimising performance, sound and emissions.
BMW cites the
Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, Audi A3 3.2 V6 and Mercedes-Benz C320 as rivals, so expect a price in the region of £25,000 when it goes on sale in the UK.
The Car Enthusiast will be driving the BMW 120i soon, as well as the 630i and 330i, so watch out for those reviews over the coming months in the main
Road Tests page.
