Audi has expanded the TT range with a new 1.8-litre TFSI version of the coupé; it is the starting point to the updated 2012 range.
The TT coupé's new engine puts out 158bhp and 184lb.ft of torque, which is enough for a claimed 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds and a 140mph top speed. Choosing the optional S tronic automatic transmission cuts a tenth of a second from the 0-62mph time and does not affect the top speed. Both transmissions manage the same official fuel economy, returning 44.1mpg on the combined cycle.
Audi has also made the dual-clutch S tronic gearbox available on the 1.8 TFSI Roadster and 2.0 TDI versions of the TT Roadster and coupé.
Three trim levels are offered. Sport includes 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control and leather and Alcantara seats. The S line version adds Xenon headlamps, lowered suspension and an inch to the diameter of the wheels. Upgrade to the Black Edition - available on the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel versions - and the alloys grow to 19 inches while the body gets black trim; coupés feature rear privacy glass and Roasters get acoustic parking sensors.
Audi's 2012 model year TT range is available to order now with prices ranging from £24,070 to £49,165.
