The Renault Wind is based on the Twingo's platform, but it has a distinct look and feel all its own. Not least among the Wind's attributes is its folding metal roof that pivots through a complete 180 degrees to stow away under the rear deck. This preserve boot space and looks great in operation.
Why's it here?
This is the official launch of the production version of the Wind, which goes on sale in the UK in August with prices expected to start at around £16,000 for the entry-level model. It's strictly a two-seater, but Renault reckons it can pinch sales from rivals such as the Vauxhall Tigra and Fiat 500C.
Show stopper or floor filler?
More show stopper than floor filler thanks to that pivoting roof design. The entry-level Wind comes with a 99bhp 1.2-litre engine from the Twingo, so it should be fun to drive, if not that quick. A 131bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine borrowed from the Renaultsport Twingo sounds more like our thing, though Renault is adamant there will be no RS version of the Wind - or diesel engines for that matter. Pity. Still, it offers reasonable boot space thanks to the roof, which folds away in just 12 seconds.
