| All-new Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Renault Koleos |
Renault will unveil its first proper SUV at the
Geneva motorshow when the covers come off the Koleos. The new car is a joint venture with Nissan and the Koleos will go on sale in the UK this July.
The deal with Nissan sees the Koleos using the same four-wheel drive system as the
X-Trail. That means the Renault has the same 'All-mode 4x4-i' system that uses electronics to control the split of power between front and rear wheels to make the most of available traction.
The Koleos will also come with Hill Start Assist that automatically works on gradients steeper than 10-degrees to prevent the car from rolling backwards. There's also Hill Descent Control to help the car descend slithery slopes at no more than 4mph.
Renault will only offer the Koleos with two turbodiesel engines. Both are 2.0 dCi units and there's the choice of 150- or 175bhp versions - each can be had with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes. The less powerful engine will also be offered in a front-drive-only model.
Inside, the Koleos draws on Renault's expertise with MPVs to provide seating for five and plenty of versatility. There are loads of storage areas throughout the cabin and the boot has 450-litres of capacity with the rear seats in use or 1,380-litres with all of the rear seats folded.
Renault is promising a high level of standard equipment for the Koleos and says all models will come with keyless entry and starting, automatic wipers and headlights, as well as cruise control. The Koleos will also have an electric parking brake similar to the Laguna's.
Prices and full specifications will be announced nearer the Koleos going on sale in the UK in July.
