| Concept Car Preview | Detroit Auto Show 2008 | Hummer HX |
The Hummer HX is all set to make its debut at the
Detroit Auto Show in January 2008 and shows where Hummer is headed with its next model, the H4. Aimed at the
Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender, the HX is an even more extreme off-roader than other Hummer models and has minimal front and rear overhangs.
Hummer also says the HX will be great to drive on the road and have suspension that will deliver good handling as well as soaking up abuse from rocks and tracks. The concept has huge 35-inch tyres sitting on 20-inch alloy wheels, but these will be scaled down for the H4 production model.
To give the HX greater appeal and versatility, the roof panel lifts off and the upper section of the rear bodywork can be left open or have either a sloping or squared off section added. This hints that H4 buyers will have a choice of rear canopy and seating arrangements to tailor their Hummer to personal needs and tastes.
There's no word on what engine the HX is fitted with, though Hummer is known to be very close to announcing a diesel-engined H3 and hybrid power as seen on the H2H concept.
