The expected development of the Mercedes-AMG GLE high-performance SUVs into the Coupe derivatives will be confirmed by the German manufacturer at the Geneva International Motor Show. Following on from the ultra-rapid version of the original Mercedes-AMG GLE, you can once again have a beefed-up-looking GLE Coupe with a biturbo V8 petrol. It's down to 4.0 litres here, but with the addition of EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech, power is phenomenal. The GLE 63 Coupe delivers 571hp and 750Nm, figures only 14hp and 10Nm down on the old twin-turbo 5.5 GLE 63 S. But don't despair if you think Affalterbach is taking a step backwards, because there is, of course, an S version here. This chunks power and torque up to 612hp and 850Nm, allowing the GLE 63 S Coupe to record a 3.8-second 0-62mph run and a limited top speed of 174mph. The 'plain' GLE 63 Coupe, by the way, manages a four-seconds-dead benchmark sprint and the usual 155mph limited maximum. You might spot an S by its badging, or the fact it rolls on colossal 22-inch wheels, when the 571hp model comes from the factory on 21s; however, as 22s are an option on the latter, it's likely most owners will go for the 'dubs'. All the usual AMG accoutrements in terms of drivetrain and chassis tech, interior and exterior styling, and specific displays for the Mercs' highly digitised interiors are in play and Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, said: "Our new GLE 63 Coupe rounds off our attractive portfolio in this segment. It meets the highest expectations in terms of design and exclusivity as well as excellent driving dynamics and agility. Thus, our latest sports utility coupe is an outstanding example of 'Performance Luxury' made by AMG. In addition to that, our GLE Coupe uses a 48-volt on-board electrical system connected with the EQ Boost starter-alternator, which makes us drive the electrification of our model series in a consistent way."
