Ah, the 'entry-level' 911
Well, yes, though with a starting price of £82,793 for the new Porsche 911 Carrera coupe and £92,438 for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet, that term has never been more relative. Here then is the 'cheapest' way into new 992 ownership. For now, there are PDK-only, rear-wheel-drive-only variants of the 911 Carrera to choose from, though Porsche has confirmed that four-wheel-drive models are on the way soon.
What's behind that new rear badge?
A mildly reworked variant of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six used by the Porsche 911 Carrera S models. The turbos are smaller, and power is pegged at 385hp, produced at 6,500rpm. Naturally, that's down on the S cars' 450hp, but it's also 15hp up on this model's predecessor. Peak torque is 450Nm at 1,950-5,000rpm. It's no slouch by any measure, with 0-62mph in as low as four seconds dead if you have the optional Sport Chrono Package fitted (0.2 seconds slower without, while the 70kg heavier Cabriolet takes 0.2 seconds longer than the coupe) and a top speed of over 180mph in both cases.
Looks the same...
Indeed, but that could be because the cars pictured feature a few choice options. Saying that, there aren't any major visual differences between the 911 Carrera and its S sibling. The exhaust outlets and smaller wheels and brakes are the extent of it, though even this entry-level version of the 992 gets mixed size tyres and wheels, with 19s up front and 20-inch rims at the back. Nestling within them are 330mm steel brake discs on all four corners. The interior features the impressive new dashboard with all its connectivity and a large touchscreen, too.
