Now this, we don't mind admitting, is brilliant. Porsche Digital, the forward-thinking arm of Porsche's operations, has launched something called Second Skin. It's essentially a real-world version of the Livery Editor from Gran Turismo Sport, meaning you can design your own livery for any Porsche model and have it applied before you pick the car up from the showroom. Not only will custom designs be possible, Porsche will make some of its own racing liveries (Rothmans? Mobil 1? Martini? The 'Pink Pig'? Heavens forbid, GULF COLOURS?!) available to owners through the system and, to demonstrate how the process works, the 'Project 1' customer-team 911 RSR entered into this year's Le Mans will race in a three-part livery made up of a trio of artworks from New York pop artist Richard Phillips - the livery designed through, yup, Second Skin. Florian Rothfuss, director of digital business at Porsche Digital, explained: "We wanted to use the project in Le Mans to demonstrate what we can do in terms of automotive design and that there are no limits to the imagination with 'Second Skin'." And, adding to this, Simon Weiss - the brainchild behind Second Skin at Porsche Digital - added: "As the livery segment is a very fragmented market, we have created a central port of call with 'Second Skin' to guarantee quality and offer a comprehensive approach to finding a solution." The ordering process goes live in July 2019 at www.secondskin.design and it is expected each custom livery will cost owners at least €4,000 (around £3,500).
