What's this all about?
Meet the Volkswagen Golf Match Edition, which replaces the Golf Match and comes with more standard equipment. Prices start at £19,840 with a choice of petrol and diesel engines available; according to Volkswagen the extra kit would cost £1,100 if specified separately, but the price premium for the Match Edition is just £100.
What do you get?
Features such as parking sensors at both ends, front fog lights and auto-folding door mirrors are carried over from the old Match. The new model can be identified by its 16-inch 'Dover' alloy wheels. Additional equipment now includes the Discover Navigation system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen user interface. Navigation functions are backed up by Car-Net Guide and Inform online services; this delivers online traffic alerts, fuel and parking information plus news and weather updates.
There is also adaptive cruise control, Front Assist and City Emergency Braking, PreCrash preventative occupant protection and Driver Profile Selection.
How about engines?
The range starts with the Golf Match BlueMotion Edition with a 1.0-litre, 115hp TSI petrol engine; six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic transmissions are offered and the official fuel economy is 65.7mpg. A 1.4-litre petrol motor with 125hp is also available. Two diesel units are offered; a 1.6-litre with 110hp and a 2.0-litre with 150hp. The smaller diesel is capable of 74.3mpg on the combined cycle.
When can I buy one?
Volkswagen dealers are now accepting orders for the Golf Match Edition with the first deliveries due in January 2016.
