What's all this about?
The recently announced GTS model of the Porsche Macan seems to have shaken its own top brass at Stuttgart, so much so that the company is overhauling the rest of the Macan range to allow it to stay feeling fresh in comparison. One way it is doing this is by boosting the appeal of the Turbo.
Why's that?
Well, think about it - the turbocharged V6 Macan S makes 340hp, while the turbocharged V6 Macan Turbo makes 400hp; not a huge amount between them as it is. So, naturally, Porsche based the GTS on the S specification, boosting it to 360hp and ramping up the focus levels. If you're a Turbo buyer, therefore, you might wonder why you'd bother opting for the range-topper any more.
So what has Porsche done to make it more appealing?
Added a load of styling gewgaws. Sigh. Still, optional design packages for the exterior and interior see the following updates: externally, you'll get bi-colour 21-inch rims that look like those found on a 911 Turbo, Sport Design door mirrors and wheel hub covers branded with the Porsche logo, high-gloss black details all over the body, darkened rear light clusters, a Sport Design rear apron and a sports exhaust system (identified by the black tailpipes); and inside, feast upon Alcantara by the bucket load, silver or red contrast stitching, Turbo lettering on the headrests and carbon sill plates that light up at night. You can even optionally have more Alcantara, this time clothing the (now-heated) steering wheel.
What else has Porsche done to the Macan range?
There are some extra exterior colours across the line-up, while all models benefit from a new Porsche Communication Management infotainment system - featuring a whole host of extra connectivity - which is displayed through a seven-inch, high-resolution screen. Full LED headlights are also offered, although as an option (if specified with the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus).
And when can I get my hands on a new Macan?
Not sure for the UK, but as they're available to order in Germany now, expect them to follow here before the end of the year with deliveries commencing in 2016. Prices for the UK are yet to be confirmed.
