What's all this about?
As long as you're not Johnny Nice Painter from The Fast Show, these two limited edition Porsches should interest you. Based on the Boxster and the 991-generation 911 Carrera, they are the Black Editions.
So I take it they feature a lot of black?
Black. Black. You lock me in the cellar and feed me pins... sorry, got distracted there for a second. Anyway, returning to business, yes, they do. Feature a lot of black, that is, not lock you in the... oh, never mind. They're black on the outside and black on the inside too, with some additional standard equipment making them even more tempting to the monochrome fanatics out there.
Tell me about, ooh... tell me about the 911 first.
OK, the Carrera is the base car so the Black Edition gets a 350hp 3.4-litre flat-six for power. You can have it as a coupé or open-top, and in two- or four-wheel drive guises. Lovely 20-inch 911 Turbo alloys are crammed into the Black's arches, while LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) illuminate the way ahead. Inside, the front occupants sit on heated, sports seats (black... naturally) and there's a powerful Bose Surround Sound System. A telephone module and Park Assist front and rear (with reversing camera) complete the 911's specific additions.
And the Boxster?
This, too, is entry-spec, in as much as a 265hp 2.7-litre flat-six can be called such. Both the folding roof and rollover protection bar are black, while the Boxster also benefits from 20-inch wheels, albeit these are Carrera Classics. A wind deflector is standard fit and the roadster gets PDLS (no Plus) with bi-Xenon lights. Dual-zone air conditioning, heated seats and a Sound Package Plus audio set-up within round out the Boxster-centric toys.
Eh? What do you mean by that?
We mean that both the 911 Carrera and Boxster Black Editions also get Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with satnav, auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, rain sensors, cruise control and Sport Design steering wheels. Snazzy.
So when can I buy and how much?
The Black Editions have gone on sale already, with the Boxster coming in at £46,164 and the 911 starting at £75,074 for a Carrera 2 Coupé and rising to £86,125 for a Carrera 4 Cabriolet.
