What's all this about?

We brought you news of the SEAT Leon ST Cupra 280 just a few days ago and now we can bring you pricing details. Pleasingly, it's not quite as high as we thought, as £28,505 will get you into this rapid wagon.

Just remind me of the spec, if you don't mind?

Of course not. As with the other Leon Cupras, there are two power versions of 265- and 280hp, but the UK will only be getting the latter - which is nice. It can therefore do 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds with a DSG gearbox (6.1 seconds for the manual) and is limited to 155mph, courtesy of a 2.0-litre TSI engine making 350Nm to back up that headline horsepower. It's also reasonably frugal, with 42.8mpg and 154g/km CO2 offered by the DSG (the manual is slightly less efficient), and it has a colossal 587-litre boot, rising to 1,470 litres if you fold all the seats down.

Have we got prices on anything else?

Yes, there are some intriguing options for the ST version that have been seen on other Cupras. The Black, Orange and White Colour-Line packs (£500 for each) pick out the alloys, door mirrors, tailgate lettering and front grille surround in your colour of choice (brave if you go Orange), while the brake callipers are painted either red (for black wheels) or black (for orange wheels); no word on what white wheels get. Elsewhere, the SEAT Sound system is £255, Driver Assist Pack (including High Beam Assist and Lane Assist) is £300, Adaptive Cruise Control requires a further £505 and track-day enthusiasts can have Alcantara-clad Cupra bucket seats slotted in for £1,250. However, the best add-on is the Sub8 Performance Pack.

What's included in that?

For £2,025, the brakes are uprated, specially designed 19-inch alloys in either black or orange are bolted on and body coloured side skirts are fitted, in homage to the car that set the first sub-eight minute front-wheel drive lap record at the Nürburgring. You can add semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres to that for another £460.

When can I buy an ST Cupra 280?

Ordering is open now, ahead of the SEAT's showroom launch in March.
