SEAT's adding a plug-in hybrid electric version (PHEV) of the Tarraco seven-seat SUV to its line-up, as well as announcing that regular ICE-powered (that means propulsion comes from an internal combustion engine, by the way, not diamonds…) variants will enjoy a sportier FR trim level from 2020. Anyway, the PHEV - which will gain its international debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show - combines a 150hp 1.4-litre TSI turbo petrol engine with an 85kW (116hp) electric motor and 13kWh lithium-ion battery, leading to peak system outputs of 245hp and 400Nm. Although final eco-figures are yet to be ratified, SEAT is prepared to say the Tarraco PHEV will do more than 31 miles on electric power alone with CO2 emissions not surpassing 50g/km WLTP, while it can also run 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds and go on to 135mph where legal. Meanwhile, FR trim on the Tarraco SUV brings in 19-inch alloys (20s an option), wider wheel arches, a rear spoiler and a full-width rear light detail. A fresh colour, Fura Grey, is added to the palette, and additional range-wide options will include Trail Assist, a Parking Heater and the latest-generation, 9.2-inch infotainment system.
