What's all this about?

Mitsubishi is showing us what it can do with the looks of the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), a clever SUV that can return 148mpg and emit just 44g/km CO2.

Eh? Why doesn't the company just offer this as a facelift model?

We're not sure, as - for all its drivetrain cleverness - the PHEV is a pretty dull thing to behold in the metal.

What's different about it?

Mitsubishi has revised the front and rear ends to give them a bit more visual clout, largely through the use of chrome. The headlamps and taillight clusters have been elongated, while the vents in the front bumper are revised.

And inside?

'Black and burgundy', as Mitsubishi calls it, and it's pretty obvious to see why. The dark red seats are clad in hand-stitched leather with contrast white piping, while the black is taken care of by wood trim running round the centre console and door cards. Some silver is used here and there to lift it.

Any changes to the drivetrain?

None whatsoever, so the car has the same 2.0-litre petrol engine supplementing two electric motors, the whole lot delivering a maximum 204hp/385Nm, 0-62mph in 11 seconds and a top speed of 106mph.

Where can I see this delightful EV SUV?

At the Paris Motor Show, where the Concept-S will be among 11 vehicles on display on the Mitsubishi stand.
