What's this then?
These are the first images of Vauxhall's new entry level car, the Viva, which is due to arrive next year.
Eh, Viva? My dad had one of them.
Yeah the new car revives the name of the car produced between 1963 and 1979.
What's the deal with it then?
Little is known so far but the Viva will join the Adam and Corsa in the small car sector of the market and will come with an "extremely attractive price point" apparently.
Poverty spec then, set to take on Dacia?
Not quite. Vauxhall does say the Viva will be well specified and we suspect the bosses have their eyes more on Korean brands than one from Romania.
Ah so an i20 or Rio rival then. Is it going to be a standalone car?
While not confirmed yet, there is speculation that the Viva platform (itself borrowed from the new Chevy Spark) will spawn a compact crossover to sit below the Vauxhall Mokka.
Not that I care, but will Opel get the Viva too?
Yes and no. It will get the car alright, but a different name will be used. The Viva badge is quintessentially British and will not work for all markets. The Opel name will be announced tomorrow (September 11).
