What's the news?

SsangYong has been working on its new concept vehicle, XLV (eXciting smart Lifestyle Vehicle) and the official unveiling is not as far away as you may think. Scheduled to make an appearance at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March this year, this B-segment concept SUV succeeds the XIV-1 (eXciting User Interface Vehicle) concept.

Since the vehicle will be unveiled in Geneva only next month, the only information we have about its design is a pair of official rendered images. At 4.4m in length, the XLV is larger than the XIV-1. It looks muscular, although how much of the design is realised in the final concept car is yet to be revealed. It follows SsangYong's latest 'Nature born 3 motion' design philosophy, which shows a good amount of concave and convex surfaces that add character to the design.

The XLV gets a unique 2+2+2+1 seating configuration, allowing a total of seven people to sit in the SUV at once. The added benefit here is that the seventh seat can be slid between the second and third row, depending on where it's needed. The extra length over the XIV-1 concept, which was a four seater, gives more space for the three rows of seats.

It will be powered by a diesel hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 1.6-litre diesel engine mated to an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery.

Anything else?

The Korean carmaker says that the XLV is targeted at someone "who's active but seeks individuality and practicality", but there is no word on when it's going to be converted into a production model.
