What's the news?
Mazda has started production of upgraded MX-5s with the improved models due to arrive in the UK later this year. The changes are said to make the roadster even more fun to drive.
Exterior
The front bumper has been redesigned for a more aggressive look and improved aerodynamics. Mazda also says the new bumper better protects pedestrians' legs in a collision. Another safety enhancement is the active bonnet; this pops up at the trailing edge when an impact is detected, reducing the seriousness of pedestrian injuries. To finish off the body a new Dolphin Grey mica paint colour is available.
Interior
No big differences inside but the 'panel décor' and matching steering wheel spokes are said to make the cabin a nicer place to be.
Mechanicals
Changes have been made to improve the way the MX-5 responds to driver inputs. Manual models have a modified throttle pedal action to give a feeling of more linear acceleration. The brake servo has also been altered to optimise brake return. Keen drivers should notice a difference when braking into a turn.
Anything else?
Expect prices and full details of the model range to be confirmed closer to the launch of the updated MX-5.
