The Subaru badged version of the 'Toy-baru" now has a name; it's to be called the BRZ, meaning Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive Zenith.
Sadly, it doesn't look like we'll see the finished product at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show. Instead Subaru will wheel out a technology concept it's calling the Subaru BRZ Prologue - Boxer Sports Car Architecture II. Catchy, huh?
This display is likely to show the rear-drive layout of the coupé, along with its horizontally-opposed 'boxer' engine mounted well back in the chassis at the front.
Toyota's version of the coupé will probably be tagged the FT-86. We expect to see the production debut of the Japanese twins at the Tokyo Motor Show in November before going on sale in 2012.
Subaru has put a teaser website live at
www.subaru-global.com/11frankfurt/teaser/, though it doesn't show you anything different to what we have here as yet.
