You can't beat a bit of Bulli. Volkswagen is said to be very close to giving the green light to the Bulli Concept that caused a stir at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
The car will be the spiritual successor to the original Microbus of the '60s - that's the Volkswagen Type 2 to you and I. The Camper Van, if you will. Or the Splittie if you had one.
Whatever, the Bulli will be a five-seat MPV with echoes of the original, sitting on the same platform as the Golf. It will be to the Camper what the current Beetle is to the original.
According to Autocar, the Bulli isn't quite confirmed yet, but VW is 'very serious' about it, and will make it at the same Mexican factory that's pushing out new Beetles at the moment. Earmarked for 2014, it'll come to Europe but be designed primarily for the American market.
"We don't have a space for another conventional MPV, but this one would be desirable on a different level, combining practicality with the heritage appeal," said VW Group head of design Walter de'Silva.
