BMW has handed over the first of its huge fleet of vehicles to keep the 2012 Olympics rolling. This first set of wheels is not a sprinter-like M5 super saloon or decathlon X5 SUV, but a bicycle.
One of 400 bikes that BMW will supply for the Olympics, the two-wheeler will be joined by BMW motorcycles, electric MINI Es, the newly announced 520d EfficientDynamics and the upcoming 1 Series, including the electric 1 Series Active E.
Most numerous of BMW's fleet will be the 320d EfficientDynamics, but we can also expect to see new hybrid vehicles too. These will include the Pedelec, a push bike with an electric motor.
Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's Environment Director, said: "The Mayor is championing the rapid uptake of zero and low emission transport in London before, during and after the 2012 Games. This is a vital part of his vision to improve quality of life for millions of Londoners by cutting pollution and cleaning up the city's air."
