What is it?
A stretched version of the next generation Audi A3 with four doors and a boot. It's a concept at the moment, but paves the way for a production version, which will be aimed squarely at buyers in the US and China. If Audi suspects that there's enough of a market for an A3 saloon then it could come to Europe, too.
Why's it here?
The A3 saloon is due on sale in 2013 and it will square up to the Merc's forthcoming baby saloon replacement for the CLC. It also rides on Audi's new MBQ platform, which bosses say could fan out to other models in the VW Group like future TTs and Octavias.
Show stopper or floor filler?
The A3 saloon is full of promise and there's more to come. The 'etron' electric version of the same concept will be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.
