Citroen has released full details of its new DS3 Racing - the hot-hatch version of the DS3. Available to order from this September 1, it will be powered by a tuned version of the 1.6-litre THP engine, producing 207bhp. Priced at £23,100, the latest offering from the French maker is pricier than its main rivals - the Clio Renaultsport 200 and Ford's outgoing Focus ST.
Citroen is guaranteeing exclusivity with only 200 right-hand drive models coming to the UK. Based on the existing Citroen DS3 THP 150, an enhanced chassis and running gear modified by Citroen Racing aims to give the DS3 a sportier drive. Top speed is 146mph and 0-62mph takes 6.5 seconds.
In order to appeal to the hot hatch market the suspension settings have been modified with specific dampers fitted. Front and rear tracks have been widened by 30mm and the ride height has been lowered by 15mm. The braking system has also been uprated, with four-piston callipers and modified brake discs at the front.
Features, including a carbon fibre rear diffuser, front bumper, side rubbing strips and wheel arch extensions set the limited edition apart. The interior has also been enhanced, with a part carbon fibre centre console, steering wheel and door inserts.
To continue the exclusivity theme the DS3 Racing is available in two unique colour schemes, one with an Obsidian Black body and an Orange roof; the other features a Polar White body with a Carbon Grey roof. The roof colours are matched to the alloy wheels and door mirrors. The addition of 'Citroen Racing' on the doors and sports seats and the DS3 Racing signature on the rear tailgate complement the bespoke look.
Equipment levels are generous with automatic air conditioning, Bluetooth with USB connectivity and an eight-speaker stereo system. The DS3 Racing also features S.ESP - a new Switchable Electronic Stability Programme.
The DS3 Racing costs £23,100 on-the-road and is available to order from September 1 with the first deliveries expected in early 2011.
