Audi has announced a series of revisions for the A3 range. There are subtle cosmetic changes, a new engine and optional Parking Assistant.
Various detail changes mark out the latest version, including high-gloss black finishing on the B-posts and radiator grille. The door mirrors have a new 'aerodynamically optimised' shape and there is a redesigned rear diffuser. Chrome trim is used on the lower air intakes and door handles (except on the S3).
More bright-work is featured in the revised interior on the centre console, mirror adjuster switch and electric window buttons. The cabin also gets dials with a grey background, a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and black rings on the air vents.
The engine range includes five petrol and four diesel units. Entry-level petrol power now comes from the 1.2-litre TFSI motor -
introduced last month to the A3 Cabriolet. This engine is fitted with start-stop and an energy recovery system to improve economy. The fuel-saving measures are also applied to the 1.4-litre TFSI petrol unit as well as 1.6- and 2.0-litre 138bhp and 168bhp diesels.
All front-wheel drive versions of the updated A3 feature ESP with an electronic differential lock. This uses small applications of the brakes to keep understeer in check and improve traction. Models with more than 138bhp (except the Cabriolet) come with magnetic ride adaptive dampers.
The options list includes Parking Assistant. At speeds below 18.6mph (30km/h) ultrasound sensors scan parking spaces and the instrument panel indicated when a space is suitable. To park, all the driver needs to do is engage reverse and operate the pedals - the steering is taken care of automatically.
The new Audi A3 is due to go on sale from the Summer.
