2008-02-14: Hot TT prices revealed

| New Range Topper | 2008 Detroit Auto Show | Audi TTS |

Details of the hot new cars at the North American International Auto Show are leaking faster than water through a sieve and the latest firm to give up trying to plug the leaks is Audi. Rather than pretend nothing is known about its new TTS, Audi has decided to release full details ahead of the Detroit show.

Based on the TT coupé and roadster, the TTS uses a retuned version of the S3's 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that now produces 272bhp. Using either a six-speed manual gearbox or Audi's dual-clutch S-Tronic sequential 'box, the TTS gets form 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed electronically pegged at 155mph.

To cope with the extra performance, the TTS sits 10mm closer to the ground on lower, firmer suspension, has an ESP traction control system that lets keener drivers exploit more of the handling ability before it cuts in, and larger brakes. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and LED daytime running lights just like the R8's.

Inside, the TTS uses Alcantara trim where lesser TT models have leather, while sports seats hold the driver and passenger firmly in place.

The TTS should be on sale in the UK by this summer with prices starting at £34,000 for the Coupe and £37,000 for the Roadster. However, this is not the end of the line for new TT models as a TTRS version is planned for 2009 with more than 320bhp. A diesel-engined TT is also expected to join the range during 2008 with a 170bhp version of the VW Group's new 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel.
