What's this, then?
This is the new Audi RS 7, launched today at the Frankfurt motor show.
Cor, that's a bit... I mean, it's very... it's doing funny things to my...
Yes, yes, we know. It has that effect on us too. This rather gorgeous five-door coupe gets the same 600hp 4.0-litre V8 turbo engine as the RS6 Avant, and it's similarly exciting on the road. How about 0-62mph in just 3.6secs? And a top speed of 155mph?
Actually, I was expecting a bit more.
Ah, yes. Sorry, the 155mph figure is for the standard, 'weakling' model. Tick the options box for the Dynamic Plus package and Audi will disconnect the speed limiter, allowing you to hit the heady heights of 190mph. To help keep that that under control, there are massive brakes (ceramic rotors, which save 34kg off the kerb weight, are optional), adaptive air suspension and six driver settings. Those include fast-access RS1 and RS2 modes, with a button on the steering wheel, to allow you to choose between 'Angel' or 'Monster' minute by minute.
What about the styling?
Basically, it's an A7 but meaner. Big 21-inch rims are standard, with 22s as an option. The grille is now honeycombed and the body sits lower to the ground. Plus there's an adjustable boot spoiler. Inside, it's the same - as per the A7, but with RS add-ons such as special digital instruments and displays, sports seats in Valcona leather and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
When can I have one?
Not too long to wait; the RS 7 will be on sale by the end of this year. But you'll have to hurry...
Oh yes?
Yes, because they're going fast (sniggers).
