I like green cars.
You need to focus; this isn't about the lurid paintjob, it's about what's underneath. That is in fact the 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo, finally joining the range, which, if you remember, was updated late in 2018.
Right, what's new?
Well the Turbo model gets the same basic styling and equipment upgrades as the rest of the line-up inside and out, for a start, along with a few tweaks to identify it as the range-topper. There's a bespoke roof spoiler, front bumper and silver-painted sports exhaust to set it apart, along with Sport Design, body-coloured door mirrors and side sills. Oh, and a set of 20-inch alloys. Within them you'll see white-painted brake calipers, which means it comes with PSCB. If you know your Porsche acronyms (and bless 'em, there are many), you'll know that stands for Porsche Surface Coated Brakes, which bridge the gap between normal steel discs and super-expensive PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake). Of course you can option up the PCCBs if you feel the need.
Is that it?
Not at all. The biggest update comes under the bonnet, where a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 replaces the old 3.6-litre unit. Don't worry though, as the smaller engine makes more power, 40hp more in fact, bringing the peak figure up to a useful 440hp. That's augmented by 550Nm of torque between 1,800- and 5,600rpm, and, if you include the Sport Chrono package in your options box ticking, that's enough to catapult the Macan Turbo to 62mph from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds, and then on to 167mph.
Naturally, power is sent to all four wheels and the only transmission offered is a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK unit.
How much for all this?
The Macan Turbo costs from £68,530 and includes electric adaptive sports seats and the 10.9-inch Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system as standard. We expect to see this range-topper at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
