Are those the right pictures?

Now now, don't be so facetious; we all knew that the 992-generation of the Porsche 911 was going to be a stylistic evolution rather than a revolution. The familiar silhouette and overall design theme hide some substantial changes, however, including more bulging wheelarches front and rear - and now, all models get the same wide rear shoulders. There are advanced new LED lights up front and a very cool new one-piece light bar across the back. Hidden above it is a variable spoiler (we really hope it deploys like Iron Man's suit the spoiler on the Porsche Panamera Turbo and GTS) and a wonderfully detailed engine vent with integrated high-level brake light. Nostalgia aside, this might be our favourite 911 rear end yet.

Is the engine still back there?

Yes, of course it is. Porsche has confirmed details of the Carrera S and 4S, which will use an updated version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six. Power now tops out at 450hp (up 30hp) and it's mated with a new eight-speed PDK (dual-clutch) automatic transmission. There will be manual versions in time, but for now we know that the Carrera S and 4S do 0-62mph in 3.5 and 3.4 seconds respectively if you've gone for the Sport Chrono Package. Add 0.2 seconds to those times without, but who buys a 911 and doesn't tick the box marked 'Sport Chrono Package'? The Carrera 4S tops out at 190mph, while its rear-drive sibling manages 1mph more.

Does the car pictured have that?

Indeed it does. Take a peek at the interior shot and you'll see the newly designed Drive Mode control below the right-hand spoke of the (also new) three-spoke steering wheel. That comes as part of the Sport Chrono Package and, as well as the Sport Response button in the middle, it allows the driver to choose from the various driving modes. There's the usual Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual settings and a new one called Wet, which is self-explanatory.

Interesting gear shifter...

Yes, let's reserve judgement on that oddity until we drive the new 911 and instead focus on the gorgeous dashboard and massive 10.9-inch touchscreen in the middle. We love how Porsche has mixed a huge analogue rev counter with large customisable screens either side to take care of the instrumentation. The ignition key looks a bit big though - you can see it poking out of its slot to the left of the steering wheel.

And how much will it cost me?

Porsche has confirmed that the 911 Carrera S Coupe with PDK will be 93,110, while the 4S Coupe with PDK starts at 98,418. They're available to order right away.
