What's all this about?
Volvo has ruggedised the beautiful V60 estate, giving us a Cross Country version that's a slightly smaller take on the larger, magnificent V90 CC.
How has Volvo created the V60 CC?
It has an additional 75mm of ride height, courtesy of suspension and chassis changes. Unlike older models of the Cross Country lineage, all V60 CCs will feature all-wheel drive - where the old model could be specified with front-wheel drive - while Hill Descent Control, Electronic Stability Control, Corner Traction Control and a special Off-Road driving mode aim to make the latest Cross Country adept off the tarmac. Like any modern Volvo, the safety kit count is huge, including items such as City Safety with Autobrake, Pilot Assist, Run-Off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and Cross Traffic Alert.
What will power the Volvo V60 Cross Country?
Volvo has only confirmed a T5 AWD petrol model, but, in the UK, we know we will kick things off with the 190hp/400Nm D4 turbodiesel motor. The Swedish company is also promising mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid electrified versions will emerge in the near future.
Any chance of a mad S60 CC, as before?
Not really, no. Front-wheel-drive, off-road saloons are not in immense demand here in the UK. Or anywhere, for that matter.
Fair enough. Anything words from Volvo bigwigs?
"With the new V60 Cross Country, we take our Swedish family estate from one natural habitat to another," said Hakan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. "We invented the Cross Country segment over 20 years ago and with this car, we reinforce our long-standing pedigree in safe, capable and versatile family cars."
