2019-02-27: First drive: Volvo V60 Cross Country

Volvo's bolstering its gorgeous V60 estate range again. Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Cross Country model, now the R-Design and R-Design Pro variants are coming in. The former has high-gloss black exterior detailing, 18-inch diamond-cut alloys, LED front fog lights, front parking sensors (going with the rears), sports detailing inside (including the front seats) and a sportier chassis set-up - it sits 12mm lower to the deck than a regular V60, while the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars are all beefed up. R-Design Pro builds on that spec with 19-inch wheels and a load of luxury extra kit, like Keyless Drive, a head-up display, heated front seats and more. Available on D3, D4 and T5 V60 models, with either six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions (auto R-Design cars gain paddle shifts on the steering wheel), prices start at £35,410 for a V60 D3 R-Design manual, or £37,660 for a D3 R-Design Pro manual, and rise to £40,210 for a D4 R-Design Pro automatic. The R-Design is expected to be the best-selling trim in the UK and orders are being taken now, with first deliveries due at the end of the year.
