What's all this about?
It's the Peugeot L750R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo.
Wow. Can I touch it?
No, because it doesn't really exist. It's a digital concept car designed for Gran Turismo Sport, the new racing game coming out on the Sony PlayStation 4. It's also a little nod to Peugeot's history, and the 100th anniversary of its Indianapolis 500 win.
Hang on, Peugeot won the Indy 500?
Yes, way back in 1916, with Dario Resta at the wheel. While the looks aren't in any way related, the L750 name is a tribute to his car, the L45. The new concept features (well, if it were real...) a 580hp petrol engine that revs to 10,000rpm and is backed up by a 170hp electric motor, all of which is mounted right on top of the rear axle. The rest of the car's weight is taken up by a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, while a seven-speed sequential transmission puts power to the road.
Crikey. Is it fast, then?
A bit. Peugeot claims that, in the game, the L750 will sprint from 0-62mph in just 2.4 seconds. Before the game's release in mid-October, Peugeot ran a competition on Twitter under the #PeugeotSocialRace hashtag for competitors to win a copy of the game, while the competition also demonstrated the personalisation options possible with GT Sport's new livery editor.
When can I drive it?
You'll be able to get the keys to this virtual racer, as well as the rest of the Vision Gran Turismo line-up, when GT Sport is released on the PS4 on 17 October.
