What's all this about?

A short but sweet one for you lot today, as McLaren has just released a sketch of the planned BP23 hypercar. McLaren is calling it a 'Hyper-GT', and it's set to be the Woking company's most potent road car yet.

What does BP23 stand for?

Bespoke Project 2 with 3 seats, since you ask. Fans of the McLaren F1 will nod sagely at that, and the famous central driving position is set to return. Only 106 cars will be made, and all are already sold. That's the exact number of F1s made back in the 1990s, by the way.

How fast will it be?

Very, although no concrete details have been made public just yet. We do know that it will be McLaren's most powerful and aerodynamically-capable road car ever, and the massive rear diffuser shown in the design sketch seems to confirm that. It's a sleek-looking beast, and hints of the iconic Gordon Murray-penned F1 are visible.

When will it hit the road?

Deliveries are due for 2019, and with Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG both working on their own hypercar projects, a new arms race looks to be in the offing. Who'll win is anyone's guess, but it's going to be fun finding out...
