What's all this about?
This is Volvo's new XC60 SUV, and it's set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
All I can see is some lights...
Do not adjust your screen. These teaser images are all we've got for the moment, but it's pretty clear that it will follow the same design trend as the larger XC90. That's no bad thing, although Volvo insists on likening the shape of the headlights to "Thor's Hammer" ...
Right... What else do we know?
Not a huge amount for the moment, although Volvo has released details of some of the autonomous safety technology that will appear on the car. The main theme is the addition of automatic steering input to the existing City Safety and Blind Spot Information systems, and the addition of an Oncoming Lane Mitigation feature. This can guide the vehicle back into line if it detects an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane.
Safe as houses, those Swedes...
They sure are, and these additions tie in with the company's stated aim of ensuring no deaths or serious injuries in any of its new cars by 2020. It's a big goal, and autonomous aids will be a key factor in achieving it. The XC90's Large Animal Detection and Run-off Road Mitigation systems are also set to trickle down to the XC60. Stay tuned for more details as and when we get them.
