What's all this then?
This is the Hyundai FE concept, hinting at a future new fuel cell powered crossover that is a key part of Hyundai's strategy to create a zero-emissions, hydrogen economy.
The FE uses the latest development of Hyundai's fuel cell stack, which is currently in limited use in some experimental ix35 cars. Compared to the ix35's system, the FE's fuel cell is 20 per cent lighter, 10 per cent more efficient and 30 per cent more energy-dense. That means that it can go further on a tank of hydrogen, and Hyundai claims a touring range of 500 miles.
The styling of the FE is said to be inspired by flowing water, mainly because the only thing that a fuel cell emits is water vapour. Rather than just pumping that vapour into the atmosphere though, Hyundai recycles it and uses it to hydrate the air conditioning system, which should stop it from drying out your skin. Not sure what that'll do for sales of Nivea...
Woong Chul Yang, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, said: "Hyundai Motor has a heritage of building innovative, fuel-efficient vehicles that advance the automotive industry's environmental progress. Our FE Fuel Cell Concept is an important evolution of our pioneering hydrogen leadership, and moves us closer to our vision for a 'Hydrogen Society', where transportation is clean, efficient and enhances the lives of our customers."
