What's all this about?
Peugeot has revealed its next-generation i-Cockpit; it will feature in all new models and is designed to offer 'improved comfort and safety with advanced sensory engagement for drivers and passengers'. The new interior will feature advanced ergonomics, head-up digital displays and touch screen technology. Over 2.2 million people currently drive a Peugeot with i-Cockpit technology.
What's new?
The designers started with the steering wheel, which is more compact for a greater field of view and increased leg room. A new, head-up instrument cluster uses a 12.3-inch high-resolution digital display. This places all key information in the driver's field of view, removing the need to look away from the road. Peugeot's designers created futuristic graphics for the new instrument cluster too, which is 'fully customisable'.
A tablet-style eight-inch touchscreen sits in the centre of the dashboard and controls the infotainment functions. New interactive technology is claimed to make the interface easier to use.
Both display screens will be able to relay 3D navigation information while TomTom Traffic will supply real-time traffic information. There is also voice recognition to allow hands-free control of the system's functions, which includes the ability to manage, listen to and send text messages. Smartphones and other digital devices can interact with the central touch screen thanks to Apple CarPlay, Mirrorlink and Android Auto Technologies.
Is there anything else?
Peugeot's i-Cockpit isn't just about the technology; the designers have attempted to create an 'elegant yet practical' aesthetic. A lack of buttons contributes to the streamlined look of the interior and premium materials combined with multipoint massage seats are said to contribute to an improved tactile experience. Musical atmospheric settings are claimed to provide an audible experience 'like no other' and an inbuilt fragrance diffuser completes the sensory experience.
