You've made a typo.
I have? Where?
Up there, shouldn't that be 'C 63'?
Ah, no, you're looking at a new junior AMG coupe, the Mercedes-AMG C 43. It sits below the C 63 in the line-up and apparently previews a whole new series of cars using the '43' moniker.
Tell me more...
Power comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol unit, producing 367hp at 5,500- to 6,000rpm and 520Nm of torque from 2,000rpm all the way around to 4,200rpm. That's bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels via AMG's take on 4Matic four-wheel drive. That means much more of the engine torque sent to the rear axle (69 per cent) under normal conditions.
Shouldn't hang about, then?
Indeed, Mercedes-AMG quotes 4.7 seconds for the 0-62mph time and an electronically limited 155mph top speed.
Any trick bits in the chassis to cope?
Though the C 43 doesn't have the same suspension as the C 63, it does borrow some aspects of it and there has been considerable upgrading of the chassis components to suit faster driving. The perforated and internally ventilated brake discs measure 360mm up front (the rears, without perforation, are 320mm items) and AMG Ride Control with three-stage adaptive variable damping is standard. Topping it all off is speed-sensitive power steering (with Comfort or Sport settings) on a variable ratio rack.
Tasty spec; how's the interior?
Not too far removed from its more senior sibling, actually. There are sports seats, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, plenty of black with red stitching and even red seat belts. As standard, the upholstery is a mix of Artico and Dinamica (aka man-made leather and Alcantara), while the new instruments feature an upgraded speedometer and a 'RaceTimer'.
So when can we see it?
The Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week and should hit the UK later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced, but somewhere in the region of £49,995 seems appropriate.
