What's all this about?
Vauxhall has introduced its R4.0 IntelliLink infotainment system with smartphone integration for the Adam city car. Certain models are also available with Vauxhall OnStar with the benefit of crash response, breakdown assistance and internet connection. IntelliLink R4.0 is available for £495 as part of the Technical Pack, which also includes parking sensors. OnStar is free in the Adam Slam, S and Rocks and use of the Wi-Fi Hotspot is free of charge with all variants for the first 12 months following registration.
How does it work?
The updated IntelliLink has an overview similar to a smartphone menu and the choice of well-known navigation apps including Apple Maps and Google Maps. A seven-inch touch screen controls the functions with USB and Bluetooth interfaces for mobile devices. To connect, devices need to run a compatible Android or Apple iOS software version.
Navigation uses Google Maps and Apple Maps with traffic information and points of interest. Siri voice recognition allows drivers to control the functions including hands free messaging and telephone calls.
Vauxhall OnStar includes a special antenna that turns the Adam into a 4G/LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Up to seven devices can connect simultaneously and even use the internet abroad with no additional roaming charges. OnStar services include Automatic Crash Response, 24-hour Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Assistance and Vehicle Diagnostics. For assistance away from the car there is the myVauxhall smartphone-app to request help, open or close the car remotely or to access important vehicle data.
