What's all this about?
This is the next-generation Subaru Impreza in all but name.
How so?
Well, this car was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show under the epithet 'Impreza Five-Door Concept'. And calling it a 'Concept' is stretching credibility to the limit - this is the 2017 model, all-new Impreza, simple as that.
Can you tell me anything about the mechanicals?
No, although we'll have a guess at a boxer engine and four-wheel drive. Otherwise, the Five-Door Concept is essentially a styling showcase, with Subaru calling this language 'Enjoyment and Peace of Mind'.
Hmm, it looks a lot like the current car, though...
Glad you said that and not us. Don't get us wrong, we do like it - the stance, the 19-inch wheels, those hawk-eye headlights framing the hexagonal grille and the sharp rear light clusters are all nice touches. As are the new crease lines running along the Impreza's sides. But yeah, it's not a million miles away from the current car. The dimensions, out of interest, are 4,400mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,440mm tall, and the Impreza will be at the vanguard of a wave of new Subaru models, all designed to push the brand upmarket by 2020.
