What's all this about?
It's a 30-seater French bistro. In a van.
Do you mean it's a posh kebab truck?
Hardly. The chef inside runs two of Paris' most upmarket eateries (Sven Chartier, of Saturne and Le Clown Bar) and the vehicle is known as Le Bistrot du Lion. Or, slightly less glamorously in English, as the Peugeot Food Truck.
What's in the kitchen?
A 400-litre under-foot refrigerated food compartment, a 350-litre drinks fridge, two grilling plates and four induction burners, plus a deep fat fryer. There's also a Rocket Espresso coffee machine for the classic European conclusion to a fine meal.
How about the restaurant?
It will seat 30 and has separate areas for food prep, dining and refreshments, as well as a DJ booth showcasing the new digital music platform from the Lion, Peugeot Music. The van is designed with short overhangs and a long wheelbase, so it can carry a lot while still maintaining manoeuvrability in cities, and the sides of it open up once on location to form 'le bistrot'.
What if I get a table in the corner, so to speak?
Then a 46-inch TV screen with eight high-end Focal speakers and 32 tweeters relays the chef's every move to eager diners, encouraging them to salivate even more.
Is there a point to all this?
The Peugeot Food Truck is a concept scheduled to be displayed at the Milan Design Week from 14 April. Just don't expect to see one in a lay-by at the side of the A303 any time soon.
